Since November 2023, the HALLENKUNST artist residency has fostered diverse artistic production within the CAMMANN Studios and on the streets of Chemnitz. Around 50% of the artworks presented at HALLENKUNST 2025 were created directly during these residencies.

​

Graffiti’s impact extends far beyond the realm of traditional visual art. Its influence is readily discernible across a multitude of creative forms, including Pop Art, painting, photography, illustration, design, music, and fashion. This cross-pollination underscores graffiti's significance as a catalyst for broader cultural change—a movement driven by its subculture and protagonists for over four decades.

This artistic evolution marks graffiti’s integration into the canon of contemporary art. No longer relegated to the margins, its potent visual language and ability to capture the zeitgeist have earned it a rightful place within art history. This evolution forms the curatorial foundation of our program, which is dedicated to supporting diverse artistic practices, critical discourse, mediation, subcultural research, and ongoing education within this framework.

Through international cooperation with artists and galleries, the program strives for intercultural exchange and a lively, transnational dialogue—acting as a bridge between visual and contemporary art, graffiti and street art, urban culture, and the creative, civic, and educational sectors.

Today, the residency operates as a dedicated, fully curated workspace focusing on long-term artwork creation for upcoming HALLENKUNST projects in 2027 and 2028. The aim remains to produce new works directly in Chemnitz and the surrounding region. Please note that access to the residency is strictly by curatorial invitation or through supported stipends; general applications are not accepted.

Headquartered at the CAMMANN Studios in Chemnitz, the residency serves as a key creative hub where renowned artists come together to work. The space has already hosted acclaimed artists such as Adrian Falkner, Hendrik Beikirch, Robert Reinhold, Lars Teichmann, Marc Einsiedel, Hera (Jasmin Siddiqui), MadC (Claudia Walde), Stefan Schleupner, SatOne (Rafael Gerlach), Bond Truluv, Akut (Falk Lehmann), Samy Deluxe, Bertram Riedel, Jan Kalab, SweetUno (Cédric Pintarelli), Zasd (Thomas Bratzke), André Deloar, Video & Sckre, and many more.

 

Presentations of current work and research are periodically shared with the public through curated previews, lectures, and pop-up exhibitions in and around the CAMMANN showroom.
