Claudia Walde alias MadC was born 1980 in Bautzen (former GDR, East Germany) and raised in Ethiopia. While starting out with Graffiti in the Nineties she later studied at both Burg Giebichenstein, University of Art and Design in Halle and Central Saint Martins College in London. She holds a master degree in graphic design. She is not only a talented and emerging artist but also a professional author for Graffiti and Street Art, which show her cultural and anthropological insight. She published Sticker City – Paper Graffiti Art (2007) and Street Fonts – Graffiti Alphabets From Around The World (2011). One of the most remarkable pieces was the 700-Wall (2010) a 700 square-meter work. This mural is most likely the largest graffiti created by a single person and was finished in four months time.
Today she can no longer save herself from inquiries for murals and solo exhibitions. Her huge facades are spread all over the world, Mexico, USA, UK, France, Sweden, Germany, Tahiti, just to name a few.
MadC has been part of the very first HALLENKUNST in 2010 and the second edition in 2011. Now she returned to Chemnitz to work at our  HALLENKUNSTt Artists-in-Residence at CAMMANN Studios and to leave a wonderful mural in the heart of Chemnitz at Johannisplatz.
Her body of work, created during a two-week artist residency at the CAMMANN Studios, will be featured in the HALLENKUNST Group Exhibition in October 2025Â (Markthalle Chemnitz).
"Thanks God It´s Friday" is a preview exhibition introducing the artist and her work through a canvas series and the artist talk "Beyond Graffiti" discussing her work and why Graffiti art has its importance within the biography of every artist participating at HALLENKUNST.
